I created a repository at Geekymedia RPMs that contains :
Bashton’s EL5 Python 2.5
My EL5 Python 2.6
Chris Lea’s EL5 Python 2.62 (http://yum.chrislea.com/centos/5/SRPMS/)
Projects to do:
Python 2.64
Asterisk 1.62 for AsteriskNOW!
Download this repo file and place in /etc/yum.repos.d.
Enjoy.

Will this install parallel to python 2.4 or will it overwrite?

Great job! Lack of decent (well, I mean recent) version of Python was a major impediment preventig us to move to RHEL/CentOS.
We were just waiting for RHEL6 to come out … RHEL5 has been around for a while now.
Thanks to your package hopefully we will be able to switch to CentOS a bit sooner!

Since these RPMs are i386 only is there any chance you would put your spec file up somewhere so that those of us running 64bit setups don’t have to repeat your work?
thx.

Parallel.

There’s an SRPM installed, the spec file is included. If you would like to share the x86_64 rpms, I’ll be happy to include them.

Building x86_64 from the SRPMS.
What was the hack you used to get past autoconf-2.59?
(build needs >=autoconf-2.61)
thanks much.

Which SRPMS are you using? The 2.62 ones aren’t mine – the 2.6 ones don’t have the version requirement.

Thanks for this. Much appreciated.
I too am after the 64bit version of Python2.6 and will try a rebuild on the SRPM.
Thanks again!

Is there a SRPM for the python26-libs? I need a 64bit version.
Or do you have the spec file for the libs rpm?
Thanks

Your wordpress page at http://www.geekymedia.com/uncategorized/rhel5-centos-5-python-2-62-rpms/ has been spam-hacked, and is nearly unreadable. Thought you’d want to know.
